Thomson Gateway Tg782 Manual
I have edimax ew-7228Apn access point connected to another access point. And internet is working great. But I want to connect thompson TG782 router to my edimax using WAN port on thompson. So, I will be connecting only to thompson (LAN and WLAN). How to do it? This is a setup: [IMG][/IMG] Neighbour's AP can only see 2 IP adresses max (that is the limit) so I am planing to connect to thompson with 2 laptops and mobile phone but I need for neighbour AP to see just 1 IP for all that devices. I am not stealing network.
I am connected to neighbor's and I am paying access to him because DSL is not available on my address. (Stupid country.) But, because of many devices he uses narrow IP range and I am allowed to have 2 IP addresses for my devices. In Australia we do have the TG782 model available but it is corrupted version without the WAN port. I cannot remember if it was supposed to or not.
Does your TG782 actually have an ethernet WAN port?? If not this is going to be very difficult. You can download the full manual for the TG784 which is the more commonly available model and near identical with WAN port. Check the documents here. The instructions include setup of the TG as a home router.

Honestly if you don't have a wan port. Just go and buy a new router.
A standard wireless router is so cheap and even N lite will work better than G wireless in the old TG782. You cannot just use the GUI. The commands to move a port to a different vlan are part of the cli.
It can be done. I have done such things. Here is from a very old post. And earlier firmware. But the basics should still work. Are you trying to use it as a router or just a wireless access point? For just wireless access you don't need to do all this.
Just set the IP correctly to the other router, and turn off dhcp. Then plug from LAN port of the other router to LAN port of the Speedtouch. To convert it to routing mode is still not something that I consider hugely reliable.
But the commands are as follows. You have to reconfiguring 1 of the 4 LAN* ports as WAN port: Warning: Only possible on LAN port 2, 3 or 4. Firmware version 6.1 or higher::ppp relay flush:ppp flush:eth flush:atm flush:atm phonebook flush:eth bridge ifdelete intf=ethport4:eth ifadd intf=eth_wan:eth ifconfig intf=eth_wan dest=ethif4:eth ifattach intf=eth_wan:ip ifadd intf=ip_wan_eth dest=eth_wan:ip ifconfig intf=ip_wan_eth status=up:ip ifconfig intf=ip_wan_eth hwaddr=00:11:42:0c:65:1d. Hi Revs, I know this is an old post and subject but I have a question about the TG782T as a wireless access point. I am with Telstra and use a netgear dgn2200v3 everything is fine. I have a TG782T never used from Telstra.
My question is, can I connect the TG782T to the Netgear and then have a different SSID wireless network that I can control access and speed of attached devices. The TG782T would be in bypass, no modem, and have a static ip in the netgear range I am thinking, but how do I control the access? The reason is that I have visitors from time to time and they download heavily which concerns me as I don't know what sites they are going to and also it slows my connection a lot. I could say no internet but I am trying to be nice. I know this is an old post and subject Ancient more like. Can I connect the TG782T to the Netgear and then have a different SSID wireless network that I can control access and speed of attached devices. You can use it in wan bypass.
The problem is that would have to be controlled from the netgear. And to be honest. Printmaster Platinum 7.0 Program Cd. Netgear routers are terrible for things like CONTROL. They are missing anything but the most basic functionality to work.
You can however annoy your freeloaders perhaps enough to prevent them bothering you. In wan bypass set the port you plug into the TG782T to 10mbit half duplex. Set the wireless to B. I forget if it is available in the interface but CLI has a lot more controls.
That will drop them to getting say 4-5Mbps max. But even that might be overloading your adsl if you have low sync speed. Spend a bit of money and do it properly. It is easy with the right gadget/widget. Buy a WR1043NDv2 ($65 but if the shops have v3 now ask again).
There are cheaper models that will work if you hunt ebay. Load it with gargoyle firmware. Then you can give them limited speed or max quota per hour or per day.
Tremendously easy to control freeloaders. As well as being able to track their online movements. I hate having a bit of kit new unused and useless.like an anchor without a boat. But buying a boat to use the anchor.
